Moon Publications Cancels Europe Guides
Moon Publications recently signed a distribution deal with Let’s Go (pity, pity Let’s Go) and the larger company of Avalon Travel Publishing owns and distributes all the Rick Steves guides to Europe, so it’s no surprise that ATP is now dropping their scheduled Europe guides like a hot potato. Big mistake, since there is little resemblance or competition between the comprehensive nature of Moon guides, the college oriented guides from Let’s Go, and the middle class appeal of guides from Rick Steves.
Hello,
I just completed a travel guide to Germany for a major travel
publisher. Unfortunately, due to the economic situation (and,
possibly, a deal they just made with another travel guide series), my book and another Europe title was canceled. (Fortunately, they paid my complete advance and my editors are providing letters of
recommendation and an explanation as to why the book was canceled.)Do you think I should even bother to try to publish my book with a
publisher? Or should I suck it up and go the self-publishing route? I have the feeling that no one will be interested in publishing an
orphaned guide to a European destination in this economic climate. If anyone has any ideas where I could try to get it published, I would greatly appreciate it
!
